SCOTT CLINCHES ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY CHAMPIONSHIP
9/9/2010 - Team press release

18 year-old Matt Scott became the youngest Late Model champion in All American Speedway history on Saturday night, clinching the title by winning the 75 lap NASCAR-sanctioned main event on the one-third mile oval in Roseville, Calif.

The win was Scott’s seventh in 2010 and 11th of his young Late Model career.  By winning the race, he increased his points margin to 137 points over Jonathan Mawhinney.  With a maximum of 90 points available in this Saturday night’s twin 44 races, Scott will finish the championship season with a very comfortable points lead.

“It’s just an unbelievable feeling,” Scott said.  “The guys on the team and what they do, I have to give them a lot of credit for this.”

Scott can place the Late Model championship alongside trophies as 2008 Legends of the Pacific champion and two-time Grand National champion in Quarter Midgets.  In a career that started in 2004, Scott has won over 150 feature events.

On Saturday evening, Scott qualified fourth quick with a time of 13.810 around the speedway and only .072 seconds off of the pole.

In the feature, originally scheduled for 100 laps, Scott passed Mawhinney for the lead on lap six.

After some side-by-side racing with John Moore, Scott then faced a challenge from Juan Pitta.  But no one could touch Scott on this night, as he led all the way to the lap 75 finish with a 1.3 second victory.

With the win, Scott moves into second in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series California standings.  He is also 66th in the national NASCAR standings.

He started out the season with several strong runs including a pair of wins in May.  Matt Scott Racing traveled to Stockton 99 Speedway on May 29 where Scott moved quickly through the field from 10th on the grid.  After taking over the fourth spot, Scott was involved in a major crash that derailed his Roseville championship hopes.

Matt Scott Racing rented a car owned by Gary Glenn while they nursed their car back to health.  On June 19, in just the second race back for the repaired #35 car, Scott finished second.  That second place finish sparked the championship run of ten straight podium finishes.

The run was all possible due to Matt Scott Racing’s pit crew of car owners Mike and Chuck Scott, along with Brian Bates, TJ Garrett, Rich Field, and Eric Snyder.

This Saturday night is the final points race for All American Speedway with a pair or 44 lap features scheduled.

Late 2010 and early 2011 plans are being formulated now for the talented Amador High School graduate.  Sponsorship and media inquiries can be forwarded to Steven Blakesley at steven@norcalmedia.com
