MCDONALD PICKS UP THIRD WIN OF 2010 AT REDWOOD ACRES

Joe McDonald drove to one of his biggest career victories on Saturday night, dominating the main event over a 12 car field for the Sportsman division at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka, Calif.

The win was a nice preview of things to come with the Redwood Acres Raceway Fall Spectacular with the Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series coming up September 25 and 26.

Behind the wheel of the #09 Humbolt County McDonalds Chevrolet, McDonald rolled off the grid eighth.

After avoiding several early crashes, McDonald went to battle with Angelo Marcelli for the race lead.  On lap five, McDonald took the lead from Marcelli.

McDonald pulled away to an impressive lead of almost half a lap before the caution came out on lap 20 for a spin deep in the pack.

On the restart, McDonald again stormed away from the pack on the three-eighths mile oval, pulling away by three car lengths into turn one.  A caution for a mutli-car crash brought the field back together, but McDonald again roared away from the pack.

McDonald cruised to an impressive straightaway win and won the six foot tall trophy that went with it.

“This was a great win for me after a few weeks away from the track,” McDonald said.  “We have this #09 car dialed in and I feel very confident we can contend for the win in the Fall Spectacular.”
