USAC WESTERN
CLASSIC RACING SERIES SLATED TO RACE IN 2011
9/1/2010
- Series press release
After
months of preparation, the United States Auto Club
has formally announced the projected USAC Western
Classic Racing Series “A Tribute to NARC” for the
2011 racing season.
The planned series will encompass the USAC Western
Sprint Car Series and USAC Western Midget Series
under the Western Classic Racing Series banner for
16 races, eight on dirt and eight on asphalt.
The addition of dirt races on the schedule will
enhance the sprint car series to shine on a
national platform, and also allow racers from the
USAC/CRA and USAC 360 divisions to compete for a
full Western title.
Another important aspect of the series will be to
commemorate the legendary history of the Northern
Auto Racing Club. In continuing with the theme
established by the Louie Vermeil Classic, held
this weekend at Calistoga Speedway, each race in
2011 will be named for a person who has
distinguished themselves in Northern California
racing history.
“The Vermeil family is very proud of the modern
product of non-wing sprint car races that take
place annually on Labor Day weekend,” retired NFL
Football Coach Dick Vermeil said. “They have
never been better and we only have one team to
thank for that, the one coached by Tommy Hunt.”
Traditional non-wing sprint cars will be the basis
for the series, with more rules information coming
soon. The series will compete on Hoosier rubber,
with the tire choices also being finalized soon.
A dirt championship, pavement championship, and
overall championship will be awarded.
Additionally, the USAC Western Sprint Car Series
on asphalt will continue with races in Idaho,
Utah, and at the Turkey Night Grand Prix in
addition to their eight race slate within the USAC
Western Classic Racing Series. Dirt racers with
the USAC Western Classic Racing Series will be
able to add dates from either the USAC/CRA or the
USAC 360 divisions to create a full calendar of
action.
With the many possibilities of car owner and
driver participation available, large car counts
are expected for this series. The projected
series has already created a precedent with its
races at Calistoga that have attracted strong car
and fan support. That event is seen as a model
for what the entire series could entail in 2011.
Representatives from the series will be on hand at
Calistoga this weekend with competitor
participation forms and fan surveys. A series of
three competitor information meetings will be held
throughout the central valley of California coming
up in late September. More information will be
released through the racing media when available.
The series is also available on Facebook at
keywords “USAC Western Classic Racing Series” or
through the USAC Western Sprint Car Series
Facebook page.
Potential sponsors and competitors can contact
Tommy Hunt at the USAC Western office for more
