USAC WESTERN SPRINT TITLE FIGHT HEADS TO ROSEVILLE
8/18/2010
- Series press release
The USAC Amsoil Western Sprint Car Series will be
making its final Norcal stop in its 2010 campaign
as the series visits All American Speedway in
Roseville, Calif on Saturday night.
Saturday’s event will be a crucial round in the
championship for contenders Tony Hunt, the
five-time champion out of Lincoln, Calif., and
Luis Ramos III, the rookie out of Clovis, Calif.
Hunt comes into Roseville looking for win #30 in
his illustrious USAC Western Sprint Car career and
leads Ramos by 49 points heading into Roseville.
Hunt won the season opening event at Roseville
back in April, while Ramos claimed his first
series win in May at the one-third mile asphalt
oval.
Ramos is looking to give Kaplan-Genoso Racing its
second championship after Chico’s Ryan Kaplan won
a hotly contested battle for the crown in 2007.
Several drivers will be looking to knock off the
top-two, including Indy 500 veteran Davey
Hamilton. Hamilton will be in action driving the
#50 car as a teammate to Hunt in the Metal Works
stable. Hamilton competes in the Indy 500
annually and will be in town for the Indycar
activities in nearby Sonoma, Calif., where he is
an analyst for IMS Radio.
Others expected to be in action include the
remaining top-five in the points; Rohnert Park’s
JoJo Helberg, Scott Pierovich in the Ken Pierson
#14 car, and Shauna Hogg in the #5 car out of Fair
Oaks, Calif.
Jerry Kobza of Folsom will be competing in his
immaculate new car that is the second machine in
the series to run the $14,000 Schwake Spec Engine
option.
Gordon Rogers, Gary Koster, Jimmy Riddell, Allen
Harney, and Marvin Mitchell are also expected to
be at Roseville.
The USAC Amsoil Western Sprint Car Series will be
sharing the card with the carbureted NCMA 360
Sprint Cars and the USAC Ford Focus Midget
Series. A large turnout of USAC Ford Focus cars
is likely, after a 14 car field for their event
last week at Orange Show.
Racing action gets underway around 6 p.m. on
Saturday at All American Speedway. The track is
located at the Placer County Fairgrounds in
Roseville, Calif. Adult tickets are just $15 and
