"FAST FIVE DRIVERS TO WATCH" ON AUGUST 14 WEEKEND
8/13/2010

Here is our weekly look at the five drivers that RACELINE thinks are the ones to watch over the weekend.

Robert Ballou – The Rocklin Rocket leads the Sprint Bandits TNT points as the series heats up this weekend all throughout the Midwest.  Robert Ballou has been a perennial front-runner in this series throughout the years after success in Winged 410s on the West Coast.  Ballou has nine wins in 2010 throughout many different tracks and series in the non-wing Sprint Car ranks.  Some of his best competition might come from Elk Grove’s Kyle Larson who will be driving for J.J. Yeley’s Triple Crown Racing over the weekend.

Bud Kaeding – Bud Kaeding might just be the hottest driver going with his wins in the USAC Non-Wing Nationals at Knoxville and the Ultimate Challenge at Oskaloosa.  On Thursday night, he finished third to complete an all-California podium in the USAC Silver Crown race at Berlin in Michigan.  Kaeding will return to California this Saturday night to race in the USAC/CRA Sprints at Santa Maria with a good chance of winning that race as well.

David Mayhew – For David Mayhew to have a chance in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship, he needs a huge night at Colorado National Speedway on Saturday.  Mayhew is coming off of a solid run at Montana where he led laps before finishing second.  But unfortunately for Mayhew, he lost ground on points leader Eric Holmes of Escalon as Holmes won the Montana race.  Mayhew has struggled at Colorado in the past with a pair of 16th place finishes, but expect to see Mayhew bringing his a-game this weekend in the MMI-sponsored Chevrolet.

Matt Scott – With twin 44 lap main events scheduled for Saturday at All American Speedway, 18 year-old Late Model points leader Matt Scott has an opportunity to put the championship out of reach for Jonathan Mawhinney.  Scott is riding a wave of momentum after winning by nearly three seconds in the TOYOTA/TRD 100 on July 31.  The young driver out of Jackson has finished in the top-three in his last five Roseville starts.

Shane Stewart – Driving for Paul Silva Motorsports out of Sacramento, Shane Stewart has an opportunity to do an unlikely feat.  After winning both the prelim and the feature of the 360 Nationals at Knoxville, Stewart won Wednesday’s prelim for the Knoxville Nationals for 410 sprints.  If Stewart can win Saturday night’s $150,000 to win feature he would have swept both nationals events.  It would also be a huge accomplishment for the Rockstar-sponsored entry out of Sacramento.
