Rocklin, CA – Joe Draper made his debut in Late Model racing, Sunday, at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, CA and guided his Chevrolet to an 11th place finish after brake problems ended his day early.

In his first ever practice session on the fast half-mile, Draper was 11th out of 16 cars.

Draper continued to impress in time trials, timing in 11th quick with a 20.066 at 89.704 miles per hour.

In the feature, Draper’s chances at a quality finish were hindered by brake problems that started on the first lap of the 50 lap feature.

“I lost the brakes on lap one,” Draper said. “I was using the tranny and gears to slow down. I did okand passed a few cars.”

Draper enjoyed his first experience on the half-mile.

“It’s a lot better,” Draper said. “It gives you time to think. It’s quickly become my favorite track.”

The strong run for the 18 year-old driver left him optimistic about his chances in a Late Model.

“I guarantee we can be up front, winning races,” Draper said. “Today I got a chance to run and I turned a couple heads.”
